Historical Insights:

Harishchandragad stands tall as a prominent high fort near Mumbai, Pune, and Maharashtra. Its robust fortifications offer multiple entry routes, including the Junnar gate route, Sadhale ghat, Nalichi wat, and Indore waat.

The intricate carvings on the temples of Nageshwar (located in Khireshwar village), within the Harishchandreshwar temple, and inside the cave of Kedareshwar, provide historical clues about the fort's origins, dating back to the medieval period. Its association with Shaiva, Shakta, or Naath sects is evident. Subsequently, the fort came under Mughal control, only to be seized by the Marathas in 1747.
